Write your text here. Human relationships are fragile and complicated. They take years to build but seconds to evaporate. Nevertheless, some mistakes can be swept under the rug while others will haunt you for life...
1. Mistreating People Younger Than You
The way you treat people when they have no power over you says more about your character than anything else. Mock the intern, dismiss the kid, or belittle the rookie, and they will carry that memory for life.
What if one day they rise above you?
If you threw dirt at them on the way up, do not be surprised when they happily bury you in it.
2. Badmouthing a Close Friend (and Getting Caught)
Nothing destroys trust faster than running your mouth. Talk trash about a friend and the friendship dies on the spot. Even if they forgive, rest assured that the trust will never return.
Close friends are the most dangerous people to betray because they have met most of the skeletons in your closet.
When they choose to strike back, your reputation might not survive the blow.
3. Neglecting the Relationships of Your Youth
Lose touch with childhood friends and they are gone for good. It is almost impossible to recreate those bonds later in life. Adult friendships often come with hidden contracts: status, favors, or convenience. But when you are young and life is still simple, it doesn’t take much to build a genuine bond with a peer.
Lose those bonds and you lose the purest relationships the world has ever handed you.
4. Expecting People to Put You First
Stop expecting people to sacrifice themselves for you. They will not. Not consistently. Not without limits.
Every human being is selfish to some degree and that’s okay.
Ignore this fact and you will feel betrayed over and over again. Accept it and you will stop mistaking human nature for personal attacks.
